The Berlin Exchange was framed by two events inverse to each other. On 11/9/89 The Berlin Wall was dismantled and on 9/11/01 the World Trade Towers in New York City were attacked.
On the anniversary of the coming down of the Berlin Wall in November of 2009, Artist Exchange International invited 5 Berlin artists, 3 from former East Berlin and 2 from West Berlin to exhibit at Marymount Manhattan College Hewitt Art Gallery in New York City. The Berlin artists reciprocated arranging an exhibition of New York Artists in Berlin at Galerie Berlin am Meer in June of 2010.
It is through our eyes, as artists, that the 1989 and 2001 events are framed. These artworks extend the language of art beyond cultural, geographical and political borders. Through our art relationships among foreigners has become personal and universal.
